Richard Johnson M. Arch. B. Ed. B.F.A.
Richard Johnson was born and raised in Montreal Quebec; fluent in French and English, he obtained his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Concordia University in 1973. He followed that with a Bachelor of Education, majoring in design the following year. In 1978 he graduated from East Carolina University with his Masters in Interior-Architecture.
In 1982 Richard was the Regional Director of Design for the Eaton Design Group; he moved on to become principal and partner for In-House Design & Associates in 1994, then later on changed the firm’s name to Richard Johnson Design Studio in 2000. In 2008 he was Director of Design for Interworks, a division of Urban Design Group Architects.
Aside from many years of experience in offices, Richard has devoted many hours to teaching. In Montreal, Richard taught Building Technology at Sherbrooke University. After his move to Vancouver Richard volunteered in the “Architects in school” program sponsored by the AIBC; he also taught Industrial Art & Design at Langara College before accepting the post of Director of Design for Dorset College in 1998.
David Tolkamp Arch. Tech.
David has lived in the Lower Mainland his entire life. While attending High School he applied to get into studio arts in his senior year; he was accepted and through a process of experimental projects, discovered that he truly enjoyed building design. David graduated from BCIT in 2010 with a Diploma in Building Technology and a concentration in Design. After graduation, David travelled through Europe photographing architecture and visiting buildings that he had studied in school.
With a solid base of technical knowledge, David is able to translate Richard’s ideas to computer with ease. Fluent with multiple types of design software, he is able to quickly bring concepts to reality.
